My Project

Keeping Up on Current News!

I am requesting 30 Scholastic News and Science subscriptions to be used during guided social science, science lessons, and literacy centers.

The Scholastic subscriptions will allow my students the ability to read and learn about current issues happening in our world. We will use the magazines in a small group setting during a guided reading/science lesson. This will allow the students to closely read the text, which will enable them to highlight important information and have meaningful discussions about what they have learned by focusing on text features.

The activities that go along with each magazine will serve as an extension of our small group discussion, allowing the students to become involved and engaged in an activity directly related to what we have learned through the text.

These activities will include an in-depth study of the current events while becoming successful in meeting learning targets, and providing a connection between the students and current events happening in both the social science and science world. Studies have shown environmental education engages students in learning and encourages youth to pursue careers in environmental and natural resources. The students will work on publishing informational articles which will include many text features. They will be using the classroom printer and requested ink to publich their work.

Your generous donation will provide the students with the support they need to become successful and confident learners. This is difficult to do with a lack of supplies and funding for this upcoming school year, which is why your help is so very important and much appreciated. You are enhancing the learning experience of so many students!
