My students are 5 and 6 year olds who attend a Title I school. We are a Title I school because 80% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. My students come from low income families where there is often only one parent working in the household. Even though my students come from a low economic environment, they are still very eager to learn. My students really like to explore new things that come into the classroom with a positive attitude.
My Project
My students idea is to wear a Garmin vivofit Fitness band to keep track of how much exercise they are getting throughout the day in school. Even though my students are constantly moving in the school to go to Art class, P.E. class, Music class, Media class, and Recess.
I am not sure of how many minutes they are moving in school, so with the Garmin Fitness band I can make sure they are getting the 60 minutes of exercise a day.
My students can do extra walking in the classroom or around the school to make sure they meet the 60 minutes a day. This will help my students learn how to move for at least 60 minutes on a daily basis.
