I work in Brooklyn with some great fifth graders. They come to us with learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral struggles. Our daily goal as teachers is to not only teach them new skills and concepts but it is to provide a safe and loving environment where they are challenged to be better people and pushed to reach their fullest potential. They spend the entire day in the classroom and so the classroom should be a warm and inviting environment....a place they love to come to everyday!
My Project
Managing a classroom and keeping things organized can be a very daunting task. Organization is extremely important for my students to stay on task and keep them from wasting time looking for lost papers, pencils and other supplies.
My students sit in groups and engage in cooperative learning.
I would like each group of students to have a place to keep supplies for their table. This will keep them accountable for their things and prevent them from losing their every day tools that help them complete assigned tasks. Not only do I want to teach them academic subjects, I want to teach them daily life skills that can help them be successful in the future.
