Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school general music classroom is a place of creativity, sharing, and learning. In general music class, students develop foundation skills by performing on instruments, analyzing music, creating music with music technology, and deciphering music notation.

The students attend a metropolitan middle school in a large city in the Midwest.

Ninety-seven percent of the student population identifies as Hispanic, and ninety-eight percent of the student population is low-income. My students are ambitious learners, excited to learn about the world around them, and eager to learn how to play musical instruments.

My Project

I typically teach 32 Homerooms of students each year and teach approximately 950 students during the year. Nine hundred and fifty middle school students go through many kleenexes, paper towels, clorox wipes, and post-it notes during the year. My students need post-it notes to complete exit slips and class assignments. The Kleenexes, hand soap, clorox wipes, and paper towels will be used to keep the class clean and prevent illness. I strive to keep the classroom a clean and healthy place so students remain healthy and are able to learn at their best. Unfortunately, most students are unable to donate the needed supplies to the classroom.

The requested cleaning supplies will keep the classroom a healthy place for all students, and the post-it notes will help ensure that student learning occurs.

Donorschoose.org contributors have kindly contributed the musical instruments students use in class. Without the assistance of Donorschoose.org contributors, we would not have classroom supplies. Thank you for helping the music students receive paper for assignments and materials to remain healthy so they are able to learn in class.
