This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I've got Rhythm! Well, sort of. My middle school band classroom lacks a quality metronome in our classroom that helps keep my large ensemble TOGETHER. I teach at a high-need/low income school where purchasing items such as metronomes aren't on the top of the list.

I am very pleased about the growing population of my band and music classrooms. For a program that was almost terminated a year ago it has had TREMENDOUS success this past year. One of the most important elements of music is tempo and rhythm. Since I teach beginning band this is where students learn all of their fundamentals, and it can be VERY trying!! Middle schoolers take time to learn how to stay together as an ensemble. I often find myself beating drum sticks together or clapping in time for them. This is because the small metronome I have now was meant for one person in a private practice room....not a 50 piece band. I should be conducting the ensemble and not clapping to them. After all, I am a music DIRECTOR.

A metronome is essential in helping students, especially beginners, stay consistent. This consistency will only be more accurate with the help of a Dr. Beat metronome, which is used by all the top performing groups in the country. This device is electronic and has a lot of exciting features that go with it! It provides quality sounds and drum patterns to help make practice sessions less mundane. There is also a Rhythm Coach function with an onboard mic, reference-tone function for tuning, an Instrument input, MIDI input, and other handy tools to make learning fun and effective. You can create a variety of beats that accompany any piece you are playing. It is easy to use and best of all for me... HAS AMAZING VOLUME CONTROL! So, when my students are playing louder passages where otherwise they couldn't hear my clapping and would get off beat, with this new metronome they can!!! Also, the Dr. Beat is portable and can be used for rehearsals indoors or even outdoors. I would love to showcase my students in a parade this year. When learning how to march together and play music the Dr. Beat will aide in their tempo while I fix everything else. It will allow me to be more hands on with the students.

With your help we have the power to make an impact in my school's band program. This is the ONLY arts program we have left in our school. In order to be successful as possible we have to make sure we are strong is all of our fundamentals. Nothing is more fundamental than tempo and rhythm. And the fundamental element in acquiring this item is YOU! Thank you for making a difference in my school and my program. Together we can save the arts in America, one program at a time!
