Keeping Students Safe, Cared For, and Blooming!

My Students

From the outside looking in, someone might describe my school as a Title I turnaround on the Southeast side of Chicago - 99% of their black and brown student body receiving free lunch - and stop there. Having the absolute honor of teaching at this school, I can say that its students are brilliant vessels of potential! They tell me they are future social justice lawyers, brain surgeons and homeless shelter coordinators!

The theme of my classroom this is year is "Bloom Where You're Planted" because I want my students to know that no matter their circumstances, they have what it takes to BLOOM and be successful.

My students come from low-income households facing socioeconomic difficulties, so blooming requires extra resources to create an equitable educational experience. This doesn't stop them from being kind, witty, playful and ready to learn! My students' potential pushes me to make sure they have everything they need - and deserve - to succeed.

By donating, you can assist in providing access to fundamental learning opportunities. Together, we can make sure their potential is realized and these promising young minds bloom into wonderful, well-rounded young people!

My Project

Along with the pandemic has come a "new normal" of uncertainty to which we're all still adjusting. The possibility of having to switch to remote learning in the middle of the week, running out of PPE and cleaning supplies, as well as the constant worry of getting sick is concerning and distracting for my students (as it would be for anyone!).

Ensuring my students have basic needs like masks, Clorox wipes and comfortable lighting helps create a safe classroom environment conducive to learning!

The future doctors, lawyers, and brain surgeons that I see deserve to feel safe in the room they spend most of their day. Additionally, sensory fidget gadgets will help them focus on their schoolwork even through the stressors and anxiety our "new normal" brings, while a decorative stool will allow us to stay organized by keeping them all in one location.

The products funded by this project are necessities - and will make a huge difference for my 8th graders. I have seen what my students can produce when they are afforded a proper learning environment and I hope I can continue to help them bloom!
