My Project
I am a speech language pathologist asking for funds to obtain a programmatic iPad with communication apps so that I can better support my students' communication needs. My students are (rightfully so!) possessive of their communication devices, which makes it challenging to model new language and sentences, especially when we are engaging in mobile activities.
I am currently piloting a recycling program with my middle schoolers, and incorporating this unit into their yearly vocational lessons, already including ordering fast food, serving food to others, taking orders, making phone calls, and going to the movies.
Fourteen out of my twenty students use communication devices, and it is essential for me to be mobile and be able to model core and activity-specific vocabulary, as the focus is on preparing them for work-study programs.
