Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a kindergarten teacher at a Title 1-identified public school in PA. I teach two half-day sessions(AM and PM K).
A district grade level colleague and I have implemented a teleconferencing-based technology extension into our weekly schedules. Each Tuesday, our AM and PM K classes meet via wireless video/audio transmission in the classrooms to extend current curriculum practices. Big book sharing, hands-on math activities, and sing-a-long sessions led by a room parent are just a few of the many activities we're engaged in on a regular basis.
In addition, we engage in larger scale projects (such as literature-based class-to-class plays), which we archive the audio/video transmitted to each respective class. Through iMovie and DVD (two Apple computer applications), we can create edited, polished projects to send home with each child in the form of a class project DVD. The families absolutely LOVE them. They are a fantastic means of keeping parents connected to activities happening in the classroom, and also make a wonderful keepsake for the children.
Our class is in need of 200 plastic DVD jewel cases, which will be used in conjunction with the technology-based projects being sent home to families.
