This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a proud teacher for Santa Rosa City Schools. For nearly six years, I taught at a middle school— a place that was more than just a building; it was my home. I fully expected to finish my career there. However, after the unexpected closure of my particular middle school, our students and staff are now transitioning to a shared campus with a high school.

While we are excited to begin this next chapter, we recognize that middle school students have very different needs from high school students.

Safety, security, and a strong sense of belonging are critical for our 7th and 8th graders as they adjust to a much larger, more complex campus.

To help with this transition and to keep our students safe, we are implementing student IDs with lanyards for all middle schoolers. Having visible identification will allow staff to quickly recognize our students, make sure they are accounted for, and help maintain a safe and supportive environment. Lanyards will also give our students a sense of pride and belonging, showing them that even in this big new space, they are seen, valued, and protected.

Your support will help us provide lanyards and ID holders to every 7th and 8th-grade student. This simple tool will make a real difference in creating a safer, more connected community for our middle schoolers during this major transition.
