My Students
Studies show that too much sitting during the day makes students feel sluggish and less willing to complete their tasks. My students have a ton of energy and need to get it out in a way that will keep them safe and on task during the day.
My students are second graders that are full of energy!
They get about 30 minutes of recess a day, and they gave physical education for one quarter of the school year. We are at a top performing charter school in Washington, D.C. My students generally come from low-income families who do not always have the healthiest food choices or access to outdoor movement as much as they need. My class is incredibly bright and love to show of their amazing work they do during class. I can see, though, when they do not get to move, they get incredibly restless and have a hard time concentrating.
My Project
The bouncy bands that we would like for our classroom will allow students to get their energy out in a controlled, non-distracting way. With a band for each child, they will be able to move their feet while staying in their seats and concentrating on their work. This will also allow them to work on the muscles in their legs to get strong! My students tend to get consequences for getting out of their seats or getting distracted. These bands would allow them to stay engaged while moving in their seats.
This project will improve our classroom by allowing students to move and stay healthy.
With all students getting a band, no one will feel left out of like it is unfair that they do not receive a band. My students will be happy, engaged, hard workers that love to come to class!
