My Students

This year, I am working with a great bunch of first graders! In my class, I have 28 of the brightest and best (at least I think so)! They come to school hungry, looking for a safe environment to be themselves. Our school provides breakfast and lunch to our children.

My students and I have created a safe, engaging, homelike environment for us to learn and grow together.

We will use this time together for not only them to grow as students, soaking in information, reaching their goals and moving on to the next grade, but also for me to grow as a teacher.

That's where DonorChoose comes in. My students are from Detroit. Not everyone can buy school supplies, and our school is fairly new. We don't have all of the materials that well established schools have.

My Project

Every child learns to read at a different pace. That means, every child in my classroom could be reading books at a different level. To help challenge them, students should be reading 3 different levels of books at a time; their current level, the level they just surpassed, and the next level they are striving for. This means that the children could have anywhere from 5-9 books that they are responsible for at any given time. To help keep their books organized, we need these book bins. The book bins will also help teach the children responsibility, they will have to keep their books organized in the bins, keep their bins clean, and keep track of where their bins go in the classroom.
