Keeping Nourished, Safe, and Ready for the School Day!
Help me give my students the things they to feel nourished, healthy and safe! It's important to have band-aids, cough drops, mints, and gum in my classroom so my students have everything they need to feel their best.
My students live in a diverse neighborhood in the north Bronx in New York City. They are from Bangladesh, Ghana, Yemen, Dominican Republic, Harlem, and more. What they have in common is their curiosity! They are smart, engaged and engaging, thoughtful, and always ready to take on new challenges. My job is ESL teacher, which means that I'm helping them find ways to express themselves, and I love getting to know them. They inspire me every day and I can't wait to see where they go.
My Project
As a classroom teacher, I see many of my students looking for small necessities to keep going throughout the day. Maybe a granola bar if they skipped breakfast, some gum to feel alert during a long afternoon, and sometimes a band-aid for those unexpected cuts.
Having these small supplies makes my classroom feel homey to the kids, and a place where they feel supported and seen.
It's important for the kids to know that they can find what they need, without the embarrassment of asking or going to the main office.
The winter months can be very long with runny noses and coughs, so I am happy to be able to provide lozenges and tissues, and other supplies to my students to make them feel their best!
