My students need 6 Hokki Stools to allow movement, even while it appears they are sitting still. This physical movement helps to enhance their own well-being while also helps encourage the physical movement.

My Students
My students come to school everyday excited to learn! I have a classroom full of inquisitive little minds who have a thirst for knowledge and technology. I want to find different ways to increase student engagement and continue that excitement for learning. Each student who comes into my classroom has the ability to achieve anything they set their mind to. My goal is to help them realize their strengths and create citizens that are problem solvers prepared for the future!
My Project
I recently read an article that said, "When the butt goes numb, the brain goes dumb." Many of my students are involved in after school sports so they recognize the importance of staying active! Sometimes it can be difficult controlling that movement in the classroom, without disrupting others. After many discussions, we came to the conclusion that we need more seating in our classroom that will allow movement! We are lucky enough to have 2 stools already in our classroom. Students who get the opportunity to sit on these during the day seem more engaged and focused, but are also working on their core muscles and building their posture as they sit!
My hope is that by having a set of Hokki stools will help benefit work at my small group table.
A lot of our day is spent working in small groups and sometimes it is difficult for students to stay focused. If I am able to get my students moving in a controlled way, I feel as if I will see an increase in engagement and hopefully see students eager to come to class!
