My Students

My students are incredible. Most of the students at my school come from challenging socioeconomic backgrounds. Many also come from single-parent homes, or their grandparents, aunts, or uncles are raising them. Some live in homes with other families and have very little space to themselves.

Despite all of the adversity my students face, they still come to school ready to learn, dream big, and aspire to do great things!

I am beyond proud of how they take on challenges in their daily lives and do their best in school each day!

My Project

As we're continuing to adjust to new and continuing COVID safety protocols in school, something that all students need is the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning.

My kindergarten students need hands-on learning materials that they can use independently instead of in a small group setting.

While students typically engage in learning centers with partners, my students have not had the opportunity to do so since we have had to increase our vigilance around sharing germs.

With this project, I will have enough materials for students to use a different hands-on activity each day. These materials will support students in math, reading, fine motor skills, and social-emotional learning, allowing them to practice skills like sorting, retelling stories, understanding numeral values, identifying and understanding emotions, and using fine motor skills to promote proper pencil grip and letter formation.
