Help me give my students a pencil quality pencil sharpener, assorted construction paper, masking tape, watercolor paper, and other materials to help spark their creative spirit.
The students in my classroom all come from different backgrounds, family dynamics, socioeconomic statuses, religions, and belief systems. Some have never known hunger, and others don't know where their next meal will come from. Some take care of younger brothers and sisters after school. Some have stay at home moms that are there to help with homework when they get home. Some have parents that work two and three jobs to make sure their needs are met. Some have computers at home. Others are homeless. Some are the first English speakers in their families. Some are refugees.
However, my students all have one thing in common--they come to school each day, bright eyed, and ready to learn.
I draw inspiration from their enthusiasm to tackle each day, no matter what other circumstances they are dealing with.
My Project
One of the things that is missing in public education these days is the opportunity for children to be creative. So often we give children a guide or directive for what to create, and how to create it. Creativity is SO important. Children all have it (some more hidden than others), but it needs to be fostered and encouraged! Children need the chance to pretend, imagine, and create.
The "Creation Station" in our classroom is a crowd favorite!
It gives children a space where they can use materials to make their imaginations come to life! Our children have made crowns, animals, houses, rockets, masks, you name it, they have made it!
The materials in this project may seem simple, but they are just what we need to give our kinders opportunities to foster their creativity!
