Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a juvenile boys' placement facility and high school. Our students arrive from various juvenile halls throughout the state, and many of them arrive with emotional problems, gang affiliations, anti-social behaviors, drug issues, family problems, and an assortment of legal issues that have led to their placement here. The boys are between the ages of thirteen to eighteen, who complete an average stay of six to nine months.

The purpose of our school facility is a two part-system: First, it provides a comprehensive educational program for the boys sent here, and second, the boys must successfully participate in the residential treatment program before their release.

The students live on campus, attend school and group sessions daily, and follow the structure and activities of the program. Our students attend school Monday through Friday and participate in a variety of group activities after school and on weekends. Some students do not have any family who can visit or give them gifts during their stay here. Through my project, I hope to give students a festive and useful gift for the winter and Christmas season.

My Project

Since our students live on campus, they are provided with the basic apparel and needs.

As winter comes around, I'd like to provide our students with a gift of warmth.

I know many of these students would like a scarf especially for those cold winter mornings. For many of them, this will be their first scarf.

In fact, I hope for each student to pick out their own fabric design, cut, and tie their own knots too.

Students will appreciate the fact that these gifts came from the love and care of donors like you!
