Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Math and Science to two fifth-grade classes at a Title I school. 100% of my students receive free lunch and breakfast each day. Our school is an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school.
We focus on organization, goal setting, reflecting on data, and college and growth mindset.
Each student has a binder to keep themselves organized and track their data.
My students are eager to learn and enjoy collaborating with one another. There are many opportunities for them to discuss their work throughout the day.
My Project
Our fifth graders are in need of playground equipment. Recess is a great time for the kids to play cooperatively and socialize with one another. Many of the kids stand around talking with one another, rather than actively moving, due to our lack of playground equipment. The more active our students are, the more prepared they will be to learn as they enter the classroom.
It is my goal to provide students with equipment, such as footballs, soccer balls, and scoop balls to help them become more physically active during recess time.
Having new playground equipment will also allow my students to develop habits such as cooperation and respect of the property.
