This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is the most amazing group of students. It consists of 36 4th graders in a 98% African American community. We come from a fun loving and rigorous environment to enrich our students with differentiated instruction to benefit them to their greatest potential. I cater to the needs of all of my students whether it be academically, socially, financially, or psychologically.
We want to create and maintain success with our students, who are part of such a high risk area in Chicago, Illinois.
I want to ensure that socioeconomic status, race, or any other barriers do not interfere with the success of my students.
My Project
My students would benefit greatly from Time for Kids news articles. Unfortunately, my students come from a low income, high risk, high homelessness rate community, and seeking worldly information on their own is not at the top of their radar in their daily life. School is a place where we can learn about what is happening in our country and around the world freely, without the hassle of worrying about their outside factors in life. Without technology in our room, these are the best way to expand our worldly knowledge.
I want my students to be able to have access to resources to expand their knowledge and learning capacity beyond their natural environment.
That is why I have included the magazine subscriptions. The other item I am requesting are seat chair pockets. I have desks in my room that do not have a place to store their school supplies for my classroom. They have to be placed on the floor, which causes a mess around the room and the loss of items. I need these for my students to be able to put their things in their own space to preserve quality and the loss of items.
