My Students

Do you remember the fascination of science as a child? I would like to help bring our science alive to the children in my classroom! We would like books on habitats, life cycles, weather, animals, energy, and other interesting science topics that will support our science standards taught in class!

Currently I teach First Grade in a high poverty public school.

With the high poverty nature, many of our students enter school with less education and life opportunities making it a challenge for them right from the beginning of their education. In my classroom, I try to provide numerous effective and fun learning opportunities to help them master the material taught and practiced in class in order to help close the achievement gap and help set my students up for success this year and for years to come.

My Project

Over my first years teaching, I have been working on establishing a classroom environment full of learning resources. I have been working on building my classroom library. With my fiction section well established, I would like to add more science non-fiction books closer to the reading level of K-4 students. After taking an interest inventory from my First Grade students, many boys commented on their desire for animals, energy, weather, and others. I would like to add these learning opportunities. I chose science books that support our science units covered in our K-3 school, so their recreational reading from our classroom library will also support needed science standards! I am very excited to share these materials with the class! The boys will be thrilled!

You can help make it possible for my students to gain numerous learning opportunities in science through quality non-fiction books.

As the students have more opportunities to learn with these motivating materials, this will positively impact each one of them in their reading and science education! Please support our quest and excitement for learning! We will be so thankful for your gift!
