Every morning we try to share something exciting happening in our lives before moving on to our daily routine, starting with reading then math, follow by science and social studies. However, I am always faced with the challenge of keeping the children engaged and productive in a heated classroom.
Maya Angelou once stated "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel".
With this in mind, I want my 27 first graders to feel loved, nurtured, comfortable in their own skin and ready to take on the challenges of their own learning. My first graders are clever, fun, original and have a thirst for learning. They love to be around each other and take great pride in working together. I feel very fortunate to work with them in a self- contained general education classroom. My school encourages the students to succeed and reach for the stars, as well as encouraging the staff to think outside the box and bring creativity to our craft. My students have fun learning in our classroom, however, on hot days many students become sluggish and have difficulties participating and retaining information being taught.
My Project
Having two fans in our classroom is the perfect solution to our problem. The fans will allow our room to maintain a cool climate, thus helping my students to stay focus and alert while learning. A cool atmosphere promotes clear and efficient thinking skills, as well as keeping them engaged, relaxed and ready to give their best. I want our classroom to be a safe haven where the children are comfortable to be themselves. Our fans will also be used in our science curriculum as we will be studying "matter." My students will learn what kind of matter fans are made of, the benefit of having fans or any cooling systems, and the importance of a cool environment.
Having fans in our classroom will prevent my students from feeling tired, sluggish and uncomfortable in a room where they spend most of their time daily.
Fans will keep my students focused, alert, energized and ready to enjoy learning again.
