Keeping It Classy With the Basics!

My students need toner, TIME For Kids subscriptions, iPad cases, a charging station, paper, art materials, and various other classroom supplies.

My Students

I'm a third, fourth, and fifth grade Special Education teacher in Red Hook, Brooklyn. My school is a Title I school, and over 95% of its students receive free lunch. I teach in a self-contained classroom where all of my students have mild to moderate learning disabilities.

The neighborhood my school is located in contains one of New York City's largest public housing developments, and most of my students reside there.

Due to the geographic location of the neighborhood, there are few trains and bus routes servicing the community, so my students are very isolated from all of the bells and whistles of New York City.

My Project

A teacher's classroom shopping list keeps growing and growing! While we have a good stock of the basics (pencils, erasers, crayons, etc.) in my third, fourth, and fifth grade special needs classroom, there are always a few odds and ends that we are in need of.

The packing tape will be used to repair damaged library books and to hang up anchor charts.

The paper, glue, double-stick tape, folders, and felt-tip pens will be used by the students in the writing center to help build their writing stamina. The laminated US and World maps will be hung in the classroom for regular reference. The TIME For Kids subscriptions, reading workbooks, and toner will be used to supplement our nightly homework. The iPad cases and charging station will be used to ensure that our existing iPads are well-protected and always in working order. And the broom and dustpan will ensure that after a long, hard day of cutting, pasting, and sharpening pencils, our floors are ready for the next day!

While this list of supplies is admittedly a bit of a hodgepodge, these odds and ends will help tremendously in making our class run more smoothly.
