My Project
In my classroom, music and ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi go hand in hand. I have some incredible musical students, and their love for playing ʻukulele is undeniable. Unfortunately, with only one ʻukulele available, it often turns into a race to see who gets to play first. I see how much they enjoy it, how they teach one another, and how it naturally builds a sense of community. Music has a way of bringing people together, and in a Hawaiian language class, that connection is even more powerful.
More ʻukulele in our classroom would mean more opportunities for my students to engage with Hawaiian in a way that feels natural, joyful, and meaningful.
It boosts their confidence, increases participation, and keeps them excited about learning. Seeing them play, sing, and support one another reminds me why I love teaching. This project would bring not only more music into our room but also more opportunities to strengthen their connection to ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi and each other.
