Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are kind, loving, and becoming tomorrow's leaders. They are even-keeled, high-spirited and hard workers.
Many are thriving regardless to how little they have while others need all the extra support we can send in their direction.
We all live by John Wooden's motto. "Don't let what you can't do stop you from doing what you can." Because we know that if we focus on the positive, we can absolutely be the change we want to see in this big, big world.
My Project
Our school first opened it doors to students in 1926. We are 91 years old. Paint is peeling from the wall and there are layers and layers of putty on the classroom walls from work that has been tacked up year after year. I try my best to give our classroom the best face lift I possibly can because when the students walk through the doors each morning, this is their home away from home for the next 6-9 hours. And because of this, we need to keep it clean so that we can stay healthy.
Benjamin Disraeli once said, "Cleanliness and order are not matters of instinct, they are matters of education, and like most great things, you must cultivate a taste for them." Students should be focused on the lesson and now trying to find a clean surface to work on.
It should be the expectation and the norm.
With your donation, I will be able to have a supply of wipes so that we may clean our desks at the end of each day when the bell rings. This way we will enter the next morning into a classroom that is ready for knowledge consumption and growth. We will also have snacks available to students who sometimes need a little more. Some students are in school all day and then stay in the after school program until 5:30.
