My Students

Welcome to our K-8 public School, located in the heart of suburban Arizona. I currently have a second grade class consisting of 27 bright eyed students. This active bunch consists of students who are learning English as a second language as well as students tested into Gifted Learning for quantitative, verbal and nonverbal.

To reach all ends of differentiating cross-curriculum we use our own backgrounds as the foundation of our development.

Some students are new to this school, state and country which provide us a rich cultural environment.

My Project

How do you prove mastery on a skill without a pencil? Try taking the math test on the computer, without being able to work the problem out on scrap paper first. My class is without a pencil sharpener. Yes, some students have the handheld cheap, plastic dollar store ones- that only last for 2-3 days- tops! Yes, everything is going digital and students are on computers or tablets more than actually writing. In my classroom, basic skills come first. You draft, outline, prewrite, problem solve with paper pencil and manipulatives prior to going digital. This is difficult with 28 students complaining that their pencils are dull or broke and we only have a few, barely working manual sharpeners. Please help make life easier in our classroom so we can focus on the things that matter!

Imagine you just moved here with your family from halfway across the world.

No one in your family speaks or understands English except Mom. Now you are put into a 2nd grade English speaking classroom following common-core state standards, which are confusing enough! Yes my student is supposed to get District ELL support, when we don't have all those half days or days off of school for this and that. The listening center will be a perfect station for my ELL students when I cannot be one-on-one with them due to 28 other students needing assistance. It's a start.
