Keepin' Cool -- A Global Warming Awareness Project
My students need 13 copies of the Encyclopedia Britannica Inc. book entitled "Earth's Changing Environment."
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. C.'s classroom raised $590

Global climate change is an issue that will seriously affect the lives of our students as they step out of our classrooms and into their futures. But it's shocking to realize how few of our students understand what global warming is all about. I teach 8th grade physical science at a junior high in California. When we study the chemistry of combustion, my students learn that whenever an organic compound such as gasoline or oil is burned, CO2 is produced. The students then learn about greenhouse gases and the science behind global warming. This is the perfect opportunity to link the science curriculum to the world outside the classroom and to help them understand this important problem.
As part of this unit, my students carry out research projects on global warming. Some of their project work is done in the classroom, but our science textbook contains no information on global warming. When they turn to the Internet for information, they often find inaccurate information or information that is too complicated for an 8th grade student.
My students need reliable reference materials, written for their age level, which will supplement my lectures and allow them to gather background information for their projects. I have requested enough copies of this excellent reference book so that students can do their research in small groups in the classroom setting.
Your support will greatly enhance my curriculum and assure that my students can acquire a solid understanding of this crucial topic.
