Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I will be teaching third grade at a Title 1 school this upcoming year. The majority of the students at this school come from diverse, low income backgrounds. Students in Title 1 schools need extra support to close the achievement gap and meet state academic standards.

My goal is to encourage my students and motivate them to work hard and always do their best.

Who doesn’t like to be rewarded for a good well done? Children are naturally intrinsically motivated, so providing them with tangible and edible rewards will help them stay focused on achieving academic success.

In addition, 3rd grade is a high stakes testing grade level. Students are required to take the Florida FAST Reading and Mathematics assessment three times a year. Students who don’t perform well on the state exams face mandatory retention. This places an extreme amount of stress and testing anxiety on 7-8 year olds. I hope to alleviate some of that stress by rewarding them through out the school year and keep their spirits up with rewards and incentives for doing well in school.
