My students need 3 digital cameras to enrich experiments completed during science labs, as they will be able to document observations and trials technologically.

My Students
A picture is worth a thousand words, especially when you are trying to explain observations and trials completed during science investigations. The use of digital cameras will allow my students to document discoveries made during science experiments visually, adding a new dimension to written data.
I teach fifth grade in a small, rural school.
My current classroom has a population of 26 students who are eager to learn. Many love the subject of Science and are eager to grow in their scientific knowledge. Several of the students come from lower socioeconomic households and have limited experiences outside of the school setting. However, all of my students are proficient with technology and are eager to use technological tools. My proposal seeks to integrate the willingness of my students to use a technological tool with the scientific concepts taught throughout the year.
My Project
As we investigate numerous scientific concepts during the school year, students often participate in science investigations and experiments designed to encourage scientific thinking. Often students are asked to record data in written form and draw accompanying illustrations of observations they have made during investigations. The use of digital cameras during these science investigations and experiments will allow students to document their observations with real pictures. We currently have one digital camera to use between 26 students. Incorporating additional digital cameras in the classroom will allow for several small groups of students to have access to this technology as they complete science investigations. I also plan to have students incorporate digital pictures taken with the cameras into multimedia projects shared with other students, faculty, and family members. I believe this project will increase students' excitement about science.
All students need to be proficient in using various forms of technology.
It is my responsibility as an educator to ensure that students have ample opportunities to practice with many different technologies. This project will provide students with the chance to use digital cameras during science investigations. As we complete investigations both inside and outside the classroom, students will gain confidence in using this technology and in incorporating pictures taken into various presentations.
