My Students
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." ~ Dr. Seuss. This quote sums up the goal I have for my students. I have 24 amazing first graders who live in a low-income, high poverty area where they face many challenges in their daily lives, but they love and miss school!
My goal is to instill in each child a love of learning and the belief that they can do anything!
This year my students had to deal with the challenges of distance learning. Many of my students lacked the necessary technology they needed to be able to participate fully while trying to learn from home. They missed school and the stability it provided them. They always came to school excited and ready to learn. My desire has been to provide them all I could during this difficult time so that they could still feel loved and cared for.
My Project
We know that students learn best with hands-on activities. Looking ahead to the fall and the potential for a mix of both in school and at home distance learning, I want to be able to give my students reading and writing tool-kits. These tool-kits will have reading and writing games and supplies that they could have both at home and in school. My goal is to give each child two sets of reading/writing tool-kits filled with resources and games to help them learn.
My hope is to give my students these tools so that they can continue to learn and strive whether they are in school or at home.
They would have one kit to use in the classroom that will be their own to use and would eliminate the need to share supplies. The other kit will stay home where they can continue to engage in fun, hands-on learning activities. I will print and laminate reading/writing games, sight words and phonics resources. The dry-erase boards will be used to help them practice writing words and sentences. These will be used together to allow my students the opportunity to practice letter sounds, sight words and build a strong reading and writing foundation.
