Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school in southern California. Most of my students come from low-income families, and many do not stay at the same school for more than a year. These students are shuffled from one school to the next, due to overflow and bus restrictions. This contributes to an unbalanced education. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about those circumstances.

However, I can give these young learners a thirst for knowledge and the ability to use logic and communication to find information for themselves.

This is the first year we are teaching at a distance. This is going to be equally challenging for teachers, parents, and students. Our students are in first grade and have not had experience with technology and need a tremendous amount of support. Thank you for your help in making this transition as smooth as possible.

My Project

This is a continuation of a previously funded project. We recently received tablets for our classroom to use for intervention in reading. While I am providing subscriptions to some applications, students would also benefit from cases and ad-free practice.

Brainpop Jr is an excellent program that offers necessary skills practice for reading.

Students can use it independently and follow lessons that are targeted for each student. It is age appropriate and does not have ads like other websites. Many times ads are inappropriate for children and highly distracting.

Additionally, in the interest of protecting the tablets and maintaining a positive environment, I'd like shatter-proof cases in case they are dropped. I try to prevent having to discipline students whenever possible!
