Keep The Music Playing!

My students need all of the accessories for playing their instruments: strings, reeds, clarinet swabs, neck straps. We also need several replacement cases and new music.

My Students

"If you can dream, you can do it." ~Walt Disney This is one of my favorite quotes, because I believe that dreams really can come true. Unfortunately, dreams aren't free! Except for a handful of my students, most of the children are playing on school instruments and can't afford basic accessories.

My high-poverty elementary school is in a large urban area.

My students are all very interested in learning how to play band and string instruments but their families do not always have the funds to support their interests. Many of the children are in the special education program and have a variety of learning issues and playing an instrument really helps their self-esteem and ability to learn all subjects.

My Project

My students will be able to continue playing every day without having to worry whether or not their families can purchase reeds or strings. Also, they will be able to safely transport their instruments home in new cases. Currently the trumpet and trombone cases are held together with duct tape and rope.

I have never met children more grateful for what they are given, mostly because they have so little in their lives!

Many of these items are not included in my school's limited instrumental music budget, since that is used up for repairs. My students will have such pride in their new accessories, especially the new cases.
