This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have been extremely fortunate to have been given the opportunity to teach Special Education at an extremely poor Title One school.
Even though it has become extremely difficult and sometimes frustrating to educate without needed supplies, our students still come to school eager to learn.
Our school rarely has extra funding for enriching material and if they do, the funds are used for older students. Many of my students' families will never have additional money to purchase educational materials. Therefore, I hope to be able to provide a fun and interesting way of learning so my students can succeed in life.
My Project
I am asking for an iPad and 2 chrome books so we can create a computer literacy center with technology in our classroom. We need the headsets to listen to reading books online on a new online reading program called Headsprout that adjusts to each student's reading level. With the technology on our students' side, this program will help them receive the individualized practice and instruction they need. The chrome books combined with head sprout will help students learn to read and read to learn. The technology will help instill key reading fundamentals like phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and beginning comprehension.
