My Project
Our classroom is set up to specifically target students who are forgotten about in school or have experienced traumas that may affect their learning in a typical classroom setting. Most of our students are from low-income families and don't typically eat at school due to nutritional differences or allergies in the provided school lunches.
We try to provide a space that is all inclusive and can be a place to provide calmness, peace, and community.
Any student can walk in and get the help they need for their other classes as well as get a snack to help them get through the day. When providing snacks, it influences the students to focus more and get their work done with little to no excuses. As of right now, I buy snacks out of my own pay which has been financially stressful, but I love seeing the students glow and feel welcome and wanted in our classroom environment so I continue to buy them.
