My Students
I cannot fully explain the impact iPads have had on my students with autism, from independent work to new opportunities for communication. But, without a $25 case, those $500 wonders are just begging to be broken.
My students are readers, writers, mathematicians, dinosaur-lovers, car experts, Lego-builders, artists, experimenters, computer geniuses, and pretty smart cookies!
They also all happen to have autism. Each one is unique and has his or her own special interests.
My school has a high percentage of students living in poverty and dealing with additional challenges such as single-parent homes and language barriers. My students are no exception and live with these situations in addition to their autism.
My Project
Two years ago, we received a grant to purchase 3 student iPads for our classroom. These have since become an integral part of the classroom, used for academic support apps, communication apps, eBooks, accessible manipulatives and tools, and leisure activities. Recently, my principal decided to purchase 5 more iPads for our classroom, allowing us to have a 1-to-1 situation.
Now, we need to protect these fabulous resources. Without a protective case, the iPads are subject to drops, bumps, spills, and "uh-ohs"! The cases for the original 3 iPads have proven to be less effective than thought, so we need 8 heavy-duty hybrid cases that will allow students to use the iPads safely throughout the day.
Your donation of $30 will fund one case that provides access to a $500 tool for a student with autism.
I cannot wait to see how 1-to-1 iPad use will change my classroom for the better, and I cannot thank you enough for supporting that goal.
