"Let the children be their own composers" - Carl Orff. My students use our xylophones each day. They accompany themselves and create their own music on them. We need stands for our bass xylophones to play comfortably, keep them safe from students' movement activities and transport for concerts.
Our Title 1 school is located in a suburban area.
My enthusiastic kindergarten through fifth grade students get to come to music class twice a week for thirty minutes at a time. They love coming to music and especially love playing the xylophones. We often sing and move while playing the instruments. Our parent and public performances are based upon the music we create in the classroom. For many of my students, music class is the only chance they get to experience the arts.
My Project
We need xylophone stands for three bass xylophones in our classroom. These stands will ensure that our valuable instruments will no longer be on the floor where they can be kicked or bumped during movement activities. The stands will allow the students to stand comfortably for long periods of time while playing instead of kneeling on the floor. The stands will allow our instruments to be moved safely within our music room and within the school for multiple performances throughout the year.
Xylophone stands will have a huge impact on our classroom.
My students have to kneel or sit on the floor to play the bass xylophones. This is tiresome and uncomfortable to do for very long. When the students get tired, they sit down. This does not allow them to play with good posture and is also uncomfortable because their arms are reaching up uncomfortably to play. The stands will keep our instruments safe during movement time and will make the instruments much easier to transport for concerts.
