My students need clarinet and sax reeds because many cannot afford to purchase their own reeds.

My Students

My students come from single parent homes, foster homes, homes where grandparents or other family members are caring for them, or in the worst case scenario, are living in temporary housing. Their parents may be incarcerated or high school drop outs with limited work skills.

These are some of the most enthusiastic students I have ever taught.

They are willing to come in at lunch or after school for extra help, even when life is not going their way. Our school is more than 90% free or reduced price lunch and very few of my students own their own instruments. They are black, white, Hispanic, African, and mixed race children. They deserve a better hand than life has dealt them and are always grateful for the help they do get.

My Project

Having a steady supply of reeds will allow my students to practice more at home and not worry about what will happen if they accidentally break a reed. Having higher quality mouthpieces will allow me to explore the avenue of timbre with my middle school students and give them the kind of start with top notch equipment that students from more wealthy schools have available to them.

I have been spending money out of my own pocket this year to purchase these types of supplies for my students and would like to use these funds for other things, like instrument repairs.

These kids really deserve a better chance at success!!
