My Students
Having good flashlights in the science classroom is a must!
I teach 8th grade General Science in a suburban middle school to my regular classes and an Earth Science Regents course to my advanced students.
I also teach an inclusion class with another teacher where there are special education students mixed with general education students.
My Project
For my Astronomy unit which has to deal with how the sun interacts with our earth and our moon, students perform many experiments that deal with understanding why we have night and day, the reason for seasons, and why they see different moon phases throughout a month. In the past, we settled for cheaper flashlights found in dollar stores but those broke often or just didn't shine enough light for students to make the observations they needed.
Not only would I be able to use the flashlights in the Astronomy unit but also for when reviewing concepts of light for the 8th grade Statewide Science Exam.
In light of budget cuts to education, there is even less money than ever before for supplies, especially in classes like science where hands-on learning is necessary. Good quality equipment can help.
