My students need running attire (t-shirts, shorts and headbands) to make it easy to find them at races.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every improvement is an improvement. My students are constantly encouraged by knowing that as long as they keep moving forward that they are moving towards their goals.
Many of our students need to have new experiences to realize that they are limitless.
So many of them have barely gone past the boundaries of our town. Our school is in a low income area and many of them don't get to experience what many of us take for granted. A trip to the beach, a day at the ballpark, a charity run; these are all things that many of them have never experienced.
My Project
We will be using the running clothes (t-shirts, shorts and headbands) to help continue our running team. Having uniforms will give them a sense of unity with the team. This year we were able to take students to charity runs. Reading an essay, "I didn't think I would finish the race, but my team and my teacher believed in me," is exactly why we do this. Our kids learn so much about themselves from running. Confidence, breaking boundaries, and teamwork are all things that will develop on the track and into the rest of their lives.
I've seen new excitement in the faces of my students after a race.
I know it has opened new doors, as some have even talked about running cross country in high school. By giving them their uniforms they will have a stronger sense of pride in their running. I've seen the confidence that they have just entering practice knowing that they can accomplish something that they thought was impossible, these are the things that I want for my students. These are how they will benefit from this program.
