My students are 3, 4 and 5 years old in a Montessori classroom within an inner city public school. Our school is considered a school of poverty with 98% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. However, we are rich in love and respect! In my class, I have 6 three year olds, 7 four year olds, and 7 five year olds. These children spend 3 years with me. The children in my class are curious and full of life. They learn best when moving around! The Montessori learning style gives them freedom of choice and movement. As they work, the students become more focused and practice the necessary skills each day that will enable them to become lifelong learners.
My Project
Our class already has a light table, and it has transformed their abilities to concentrate for longer periods of time. It also has a calming effect on the students, and allows them to look at objects in many different ways. With the Light Table Peg Board Set, the Translucent Imagination Builders and Rainbow Pyramid Stackers, my students can begin to build things in 3D.
As we use our light table, we have learned how colors change our perception.
With three dimensional objects, we will again change our perceptions and look upwards, focusing our attention on the changes that come when building in three dimensions.
