My Students

Meet my 2nd graders! The boys and girls I teach share a passion for learning. They come from diverse backgrounds, have unique strengths, and display a wide range of abilities. Some have parents who also grew up in the neighborhood, while others are new to the county and are learning English for the first time!

Each year, I cannot wait to make self-portraits to decorate our classroom during the first week of school, create apple-print collages in September, and paint noodle necklaces for Valentine's Day.

Over the years, my students and I have experienced so much kindness and support from the community, family, and friends. Between the hard work we do inside our classroom and the incredible generosity of the people who cheer us on and want to see us succeed, there's nothing we can't accomplish.

Every year and with each new group of students, I have so many hopes and dreams for what our time together can be. My students light up each day with their joy, curiosity, humor, and intelligence. I look forward to doing all that I can to create a classroom community that will push them to love learning as much as I love teaching!

My Project

This year more than ever, I am looking for ways to maximize the time my students spend reading. Many of my kids' access to books ends with the school day. Scholastic magazines would change that! Each student will receive a new magazine to take home every single week. The content of these magazines is engaging, fun, and at the appropriate reading level for my students. The topics covered teach important social studies standards that will help my kids build knowledge and background.

In addition to print magazines, we will also have access to the digital version!

There are so many incredible features that will be an enormous asset to my students. They can have the text read aloud, access games and activities, and read anywhere on a phone or tablet. These magazines would significantly benefit my students as readers by getting great content into their hands and into their homes on a weekly basis.
