Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a middle school music teacher in an inner-city school and I teach students from 6th to 8th grade. Most of my students come from a low socio-economic background in an area infected with gangs and drugs. Many of my students, most poor, tell me that band is the reason they stay in school.

My students have been participating for the last two years in drum line. We are in one of our city's most impoverished areas, and funds are not always available to replace basic but vital items to keep the students performing. Drum heads, like other equipment, wear out over time and need to be replaced.

We need to replace the heads on our marching snare and bass drums. Doing this will allow the drums to sound their very best and to keep the drum line active.

I want to give my students the best musical experience possible, and the replacement of the drum heads will keep the drum line making music.
