My Project

At our high school, our photography program has become a creative lifeline for students who often have few other outlets for self-expression. We are a Title I school, with more than 75% of our students living below the poverty line. As the most culturally diverse high school in the nation, our program allows students to share their unique stories through photography while gaining valuable career and life skills.

After eight years of dedicated service, the 30 Nikon cameras central to our Photography and Yearbook classes are failing and can no longer be serviced or repaired.

Due to recent Title I funding reductions, we cannot afford to replace them. A new state law prohibits cell phones for instructional use, eliminating our mobile camera fallback. Our students' hands-on learning now depends entirely on receiving new manual-control cameras.

Each year, over 200 students learn technical skills like exposure and composition, alongside the deeper art of storytelling. They gain real-world experience by photographing school events, learning how to do portraits and exploring our state landscapes and wildlife as supplemental income sources. Student work is proudly displayed in multiple community galleries, with local residents frequently reaching out to purchase pieces. Photography gives our students a vital sense of pride, confidence, and belonging.

We are seeking a new class set of 30 Canon EOS R100 mirrorless cameras. Canon’s reputation for durability, innovation, and responsive customer support—praised by our local service provider—makes them the ideal solution to sustain our program for years to come. With your help, we can continue to give our students the opportunity to learn and share their voices. These cameras are more than tools—they are keys that unlock creativity, open career pathways in our state's growing media industries, and allow our students to see themselves as artists, storytellers, and change-makers.
