My Students

"I believe children are the future. Teach them well and let them lead the way." These are not only words from a popular song but a strong belief that I hold as a teacher.

Equity for all!

My students are full of potential. They are bright shining beacons of light. I am asking for assistance so that they can glow like the stars that they are.

Fortunately, for the students in my class, envisioning the future is something we think of and talk about often. Because their daily existence is so challenging, I have them focus on their bright and delightful futures!

I teach in a low socio-economic area at a Title I school where 99% of the population receives free breakfast and lunch at school. On most days the heartiest and healthiest meals that the students receive are what they eat at school. It isn't unusual for the students in my class to stockpile food in their book bags to take home in order to have something to eat later that day.

Despite the harsh circumstances and backdrops of their lives, the students come to school daily with smiles on their faces.

My Project

My school district has adapted a Hybrid model for back to school in September. This means that students will be rotated (10 - 15) at a time in my classroom a few days a week while also continuing remote learning a few days a week from home.

"I can't breathe", is not something that I want to hear my students say.

Help me to provide clean & sanitized air for my little ones to inhale. Every time we breathe or open our mouth to speak we can exhale or inhale particles that may contain infectious viruses.

Most recently, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that all large malls in New York will have to install “air filtration systems that can filter out the COVID virus” before reopening. However, no such stipulations were put in place for NYC schools. My school is located in the Bronx; NY one of the most severely affected parts of New York State from Corona Virus. My students have already suffered tremendous loses.

I know that my first graders will have a hard time keeping their mask on all day. This HEPA Air Purifier will allow me to provide an extra layer of protection for these students. Experts agree that efficient ventilation may likely be an important part in safely resuming indoor activities. HEPA filters, according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, can theoretically remove at least 99.97% of particles as small as .3 microns.

“That is potentially good because almost all the droplets that are going to be carrying viruses are all within that range,” said Dr. Mittal.

I DO NOT want these children getting sick in school or bringing home any bugs to their families. Please help!
