My students are a great group of students who are filled with a lot of energy. They are a mixture of Brooklyn natives and recent immigrants to our country. I have a large population of recent Yemeni immigrants. They come to school every single day excited to learn. Their excitement pushes me to do my best every day.
Many of my recent Yemeni immigrants have experienced years of interrupted schooling, destruction of their homes and family members that have been lost due to the conflict in their home country.
Despite all of their trauma these kids are resilient and inspiring!
My Project
Ping pong is not only a physical sport, but improves an individual's mentality as well! Playing ping-pong will improve a student's hand eye coordination, stimulate mental alertness and improve reflexes by developing fast-twitch muscles. Ping pong improves balance and stimulates many parts of the brain. Studies have shown that recreational ping pong has reduced the risk for dementia later in life.
This project for ping pong table and paddles would significantly help my students not only during physical education class, but in many other settings as well.
All the benefits of ping pong will help students improve their grades in other classes by increasing their brain activity and will also give them a healthy, social activity to participate in outside of the school building!
