My Project

As a first-grade teacher, my goal is to create a learning environment where my students not only excel academically but also develop the emotional and social skills they need to thrive. Many of my young students face challenges in regulating their emotions, which can impact their ability to focus, learn, and interact positively with their peers. To support their growth, I am creating a Calming Corner in our classroom, equipped with tools such as sand timers, sensory objects, self-regulation and breathing posters, headphones and weighted stuffed animals.

The Calming Corner will be a dedicated space where students can take a moment to step away from the busyness of the classroom and practice self-regulation techniques.

This area will include soft seating, sensory toys, and mindfulness tools that help students manage their emotions. Whether they are feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, or anxious, the Calming Corner will offer them a safe space to calm down, reflect, and reset before rejoining the class. By providing this space, I aim to teach my students that it's okay to take a break when needed, which is a crucial skill for their emotional wellness and long-term success.

The Calming Corner will have essential tools that will help my students learn to manage their emotions, stay focused on their work, and build positive relationships with their peers.
