This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Managing emotions is a constant learning process that takes time and patience to master. Many of my preschool special needs students have difficulties expressing and regulating their feelings. Most of them are nonverbal so instead of using their words, it comes out through behavior. They are still learning to identify their feelings and express their feelings in appropriate ways. I would like to provide my students a safe space where they can go to de-escalate or escape when they feel overwhelmed or overstimulated and teach them the skills they need using the materials provided to help them calm their little bodies. Learning how to self-regulate emotions at a young age can be extremely beneficial and having a cozy corner and materials will help my students learn the important skills of self-regulation.
