This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in an inner city neighborhood. Most of the students have 2 working parents and many speak a second language at home. The neighborhood our school is located in is diverse, urban setting.

My students are eager young learners.

This school year will be their first exposure to a large public school. The children speak another language at home and are economically challenged. Most students get free lunch.

My students deserve to start their academic careers with as many opportunities as I can provide for them. The are curious and creative. They are full of questions and constantly exploring the world around them.

My Project

The materials in this project will help create an engaging and inspiring writing center in our PreK class. Emergent writers in PreK begin to explore how letters represent their words and ideas.

"The beautiful part of writing is that you don't have to get it right the first time..." Writing is a process.

The materials in this project will inspire students to write independently. The colorful and appealing writing supplies will motivate students to write.

PreK emergent writers begin to produce physical marks and give meanings to these markings. "Early writing is one of the best predictors of children's later reading success (National Early Literacy Panel, 2008)".
