Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am the only school counselor for over 600 amazing students. Ninety percent of our students are Latino, and 76% are from low-income families. About 11% of our students are considered special needs. Our students are bright and creative and come from hard-working, loving families that want to see their children succeed.

Due to the pandemic, some of our students have missed over a year and a half of in person instruction.

My Project

Our students’ safety is our top priority in helping prevent the spread of germs. Most of our students come to school wearing masks. Some students, however, wear masks that are too big, do not completely cover their nose or are too tight on their ears, making the mask uncomfortable to wear all day. Also, after recess and lunch, some students need to have their masks replaced due to sweating and/or a spill. For few students, masks are provided daily when they enter school.

Our students having access to masks that fits them perfectly and are comfortable allows them to put their worries to rest and focus on their school work.

Having a wide variety of masks available for our students allows us to continue providing masks for them and ensures that they follow guidelines to stay safe throughout the school year.
