it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I may have very different students in my class but they have one thing all in common :my students are in LOVE sensory items. We recently were funded (THANK YOU!) and received Fire tablets. My class was ecstatic.I was impressed at how easy it was to help my students get motivated and fast! We have been using them daily and even other classes have joined in on our good fortune. We have four grade -levels in a self-contained EB/D setting. EB/D stands for Emotional and Behavioral Disabilities, and my class needs extra special support and attention to each of their unique situations.
The age range is from kindergarten to third grade, and I have students aged 5-10, so needless to say we have a large gap to always be filling.
My class has brilliant minds and they LOVE learning . They sometimes feel frustrated and we have a "calm area" for studentsnto go relax for a break, and it is quite therapeutic for them as well. The problem is ,when they go to our special calm spot , there is not too much calming tools , such as sensory based equipment and toys.
My Project
Sensory ans Art are my students favoriye way to feel calm and happy. I choose Lakeshore supplies to help me build my "Calm Spot", because of the amazing selection of sensory items there. My students need outlets to express themselves, as well as center themselves, and even communicate how they are feeling. Things like Kinetic sand and various texturized toys, help my students relax. They need this inner peace to learn, where as most students can move on and let go of a bothersome situation, my students will often shut down. It is my job, to find ways to connect themselves to the world and their education, while letting the small daily frustrations of life go .Sometimes simply taking a short "break" from whats bothering them, changes everything. The end result, a happy and educated child, ready to take on the world.
