Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I best describe my students as being ROCKSTARS! Each time they walk into my classroom they are ready to perform their best! They are all amazingly funny, kind, and smart. I teach at a Title I school in which a majority of my students come from low-income households and face many challenges both in and out of school.
My main goal is to inspire my students to expand their capacity for critical thinking.
I want my students to be able to master any challenges they may face as well as become lifelong learners.
My Project
A majority of my students are English Language Learners. Unfortunately, this means most struggle with reading and comprehending books in English. My wish is to expose my students to a variety of genres to increase their motivation to read as well as learn to make connections between the text, the world, and themselves. By creating a classroom library with a variety of books, my students will surely become more willing to read as well as increase their reading level. I believe by having Graphic Novels, Fiction, and Non-Fiction text in the classroom, students will build a strong connection between reading and themselves.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
