My Project
My students all come to me with various delays in speech, cognitive, social emotional and adaptive skills. Many of them are also from low income families. My class is made up of 3 and 4 year olds that have experienced a loss of social learning due to the Coronavirus pandemic. These children did not have the same social experiences early on that children before the pandemic were able to experience, such as going to the park, family outings and the library. The students in my class are at a fragile age in which learning how to self regulate is essential for their development. This project will provide my students with various materials to help them learn calming strategies and to engage in social play with their peers. I will be using flexible seating to help my students learn to control their bodies and attend in class. I will use sensory and fidget toys to help them learn calming techniques and how to socially interact with peers and adults in the classroom.
